Blended Malt is something between Blended and Single Malt.
Compared with Blended, Blended Malt does not have a weak and light grain whiskey, so it has richer layers and a more distinct taste.
Compared to Single Malt, the wines from multiple wineries are blended to complement each other. It is more rounded and harmonious than the products from a single winery, and has no obvious edges and corners.
So even the more entry-level Blended Malt performs above average. The Berry Bro. & Rudd The Classic Range series, which is always available in our store, is a good example.

In the past, the 90-point Sherry model from Whiskyfun (hereinafter referred to as WF) was particularly popular, but the editor prefers Speyside for its greasy feel and green fruity aroma. In addition, the Islay model also shows a lot of sea cement and other classic Islay styles, WF 87.

The more common one is of course the Monkey Shoulder , which is not to my taste.
The Johnnie Walker 15yo Green Label has been a solid performer.
In addition, Naked Malt , which is owned by Edrington and has recently changed its packaging and name, is a blend of Highland Park and Macallan. It just scored 83 points in WF. A few points higher than Monkey Shoulder.

Douglas Laing
Its 5 Blended Malt brands:
Scallywag : A blend of only three original wines from Glenrothes, Macallan and Mortlach, a balanced sherry style.
Rock Island : The island style is obvious, with common flavors such as sea water, light ash, lemon, etc.
Big Peat : Peat, ash, charcoal, etc. that are heavier than the above.
Timorous Beastie : Bourbon Cask Highland style, ripe yellow fruit with flavors such as cream and barley, a series that is often overlooked.
The above series of wines have an average WF score of 85 points, which is better than many regular models of the Single Malt brand.
There is also The Epicurean in the low area, but I haven’t tasted it so I won’t say much more.

When it comes to Blended Malt, I have to mention this brand. You can find the formula for each product on the official website, which is a very unique approach.
The Spice Tree, The Peat Monster, and The Story of the Spaniard are all great everyday choices.
In addition, Flaming Heart, No Name, Three Year Old Deluxe, Phenomenology, etc. are all instant choices and are excellent.
Of course, there are also more limited styles, such as bottling LMDW.

Frankly speaking, from the perspective of choosing an everyday style, the balanced and rounded style of Blended Malt is more suitable. For those who have never tried Blended Malt, come and choose a bottle. It will be fun to compare it with the Single Malt or Blended you have on hand.
Or wait a little longer for the newly introduced brands in our store to be put on the shelves.
What is this new thing? Let’s talk about it next time.
