Collection: Bowmore Whiskey

Bowmore is a Scotch whisky distillery on the Isle of Islay. Located on the southeastern shore of Loch Indal, the distillery is one of the oldest in Scotland. Said to have been established in 1779, it is the oldest distillery on Islay. The distillery is owned by Morrison Bowmore Distillers Ltd, a holding company owned by Beam Suntory, a subsidiary of Japanese multinational beverage group Suntory. Morrison Bowmore also owns the Auchentoshan and Glen Garioch distilleries and produces McClelland's range of single malt whiskies.

Bowmore Distillery sourced as much barley as possible from Islay, but there was not enough production to meet the distillery's needs, so barley was also imported from the mainland. The distillery retains traditional floor malts, but this also lacks sufficient capacity; barley imported from the mainland is usually already malted. The winery has an annual production capacity of 2 million liters and fermentation takes place in traditional wooden backwashes before the liquid passes through two wash stills and two stills. Waste heat from the distillation process is used to heat a nearby public swimming pool, which was built in a former warehouse at the winery.
