Tropical fruits, toasted oak and lingering smoky peat notes.
Peated Finish; uses an old world whiskey style. This is a red wine barrel aged single malt whiskey. Finished in Lagavulin peat barrels, straight off the rugged coast of Scotland's Islay Island. Blending Starward's quintessential tropical flavors with the smoky and earthy flavors from Islay's coastal peat. Expect a whiskey unlike any other in Australia.
Where there is smoke, there is fire.
Following the successful and award-winning UnExpeated release in 2021, we couldn't help but play with some delicious smoked peated whiskey casks. We transfer the three-year-old, mature red wine barrel whiskey into highly saturated peat barrels, where it is aged for 18 months. The whiskey is finished in these ex-Islay oak casks for twice as long as the peated casks in our first release, resulting in a deeper, smokier finish that pays homage to Scottish casks. Of course, all of this is perfectly balanced with Starward's typical tropical fruit flavors.
Tasting notes:
Color: Russet Aroma: Bright tropical fruits, toasted oak and a hint of sweet peat.
Palate: Ripe red fruits, subtle peat smoke, yellow peach and mocha.
Finish: Oak drying down, peat lingering on the finish
